Yesterday I flew to Shanghai with Virgin Airlines. I flew first class which was quite magnificent. A driver picked me up from home in a posh car and drove me to the airport. I didn’t even have to get out of the car to check-in, they did it at the window. Still had to wait at the airport lounge for an hour or two, but it was a very posh business lounge full of rich people – and me!

In the plane, you get to sit in the first-class cabin, or upper class as Virgin calls it. Every seat is angled away from the window and is completely private. You get a sleeping suit, a duvet and a big pillow, so very comfy. The seat extends into a flatbed too, so much better than other flights.

When you order food, which you can do at any time, you have a menu to choose from and it is served on proper plates with real cutlery. There is a bar at the end of the cabin where you can sit and order drinks, snacks etc.

The entertainment system is great as you have your own tv, with on-demand films, shows and games. However, apart from this, the flight was very long about 12 hours so I was glad to get to China.

Another limo picked me up and drove me the hour to the Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel. Shattered!
