Today we set out about 8am on our way to Tennessee. The border crossing was easy and we made a steady drive down to our first stop at Hazleton, Pennsylvania. We were staying at the Hampton Inn and had a king room booked. It turned out to be a small room, but the biggest disappointment was the view, or lack of it. All we could see was the top of a tin roof (see pic) and we were also facing the highway so plenty of road noise. Oh well, only for one night!
When I went into the bathroom I noticed the water in the toilet was yellow, like someone had peed in it. When Chris turned on the tap it too was yellow water. I phoned down to reception to tell them we had yellow water and he said they knew as the city had had a problem with a water main and it should be okay now. He told me to run the tap for a few minutes and it should be okay. I said it would have been nice if someone had told us this when we checked in. He said they didn’t find out till later in the day. As we had only checked in 10 mins ago, they would have known then. FAIL!
For dinner, we went next door to a restaurant called Top of the ’80s. Our meals were nice but expensive but the restaurant did have a great view of the mountains.
Tomorrow we will be travelling to Virginia for another stopover before getting to the Smokies.
