Woke up at the hotel to the sound of torrential rain. Oh well, can’t do anything about the weather! We got ready and went down for breakfast which wasn’t the best we have had – no hot options, but was okay. After breakfast, we packed everything ready for the next leg of our journey.

Once again the actual journey was pretty uneventful. By the time we left the hotel the rain had stopped and the sun was shining. We stopped a couple of times en route to stretch our legs and snack and the weather stayed beautiful with the temperature rising to reach 31C.

Between leaving home and reaching our destination we drove through one province: Ontario and 5 states New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. As we got close to Harrisonburg the skies started getting darker, then the rain started, next, we had thunder and lightning. By the time we got to the Hampton Inn hotel, it was torrential rain with bolts of lightning crashing down. We unloaded the car and ran into the hotel, checked in and got to our room at about 3pm.

Not long after we arrived the storm stopped and once again the sun came out. We unpacked everything and then found out we had a tornado warning for the area this evening. Oh, joy!

With this in mind, we decided to go out for dinner early so we could get back to the hotel in case the weather warning was correct. Fingers crossed it comes to nothing – storm chasing was not supposed to be part of this trip!

Well, we never got the tornado, thank goodness, but we did get plenty of rain. But after we had a beautiful rainbow. Unfortunately, it positioned itself by a pylon which wasn’t good, but hey it’s a rainbow!
