Lake George, Outlet malls and Prospect Mountain

Today they forecast rain where we were staying so we decided to drive south to Lake George where the weather was supposed to be a bit better. Although much longer, we chose to drive via the back route and glad we did as it was very scenic.

The first place we headed to was an outlet mall which was located along the main road and spread over both sides of the road. We found several bargains including Sketchers footwear and had a lovely hot chocolate at the Lindt shop where they make it from the actual chocolates.

After shopping, we drove to nearby Prospect Mountain. This is a mountain which overlooks the town and offers great views, so we had to give it a go. We found out that you have to drive up the winding mountain road where there are several scenic outlooks that you can pull into and take photos etc. eventually you end up at a large parking area, this is as far as you can go by car.

The first thing we came to was an old abandoned cable railway, but there was plenty up there to occupy us. If you bring food etc, there are lots of picnic tables and seating and also some BBQ areas. And of course, the views are stunning.

This time, we stayed in Saranac Lake and went to the Downhill Diner in town. It is a large restaurant with many menu choices. I chose Chicken Parmesan which was huge, but really, really nice. Chris had fish and chips which he also enjoyed.

In the evening we drove around the back roads again and this time saw 4 deer and a groundhog. We also saw a bear, but it was back in the trees so we could not get a photo
