Well, finally Calgary celebrated Pride. It seems a lot later than many other places, but it was certainly worth the wait.
The parade began at the east side of downtown at 12 noon. We positioned ourselves about 3 blocks from the start at 1st St SE and it turned out to be a good spot as most of the spectators chose to be further towards the west of the route, so we weren’t too crowded.
The parade was led by activist Lois Szabo. We have personally never heard of her, but she is obviously significant here and in the LGBTQ community.
There is not much to actually say about the parade other than it was incredibly colourful and everyone was really enjoying themselves whether they were taking park or just watching. It took almost 2 hours for the 150+ floats etc to pass us and the weather was perfect, warm but not nearly as hot as it has been. I’ll let the pictures do the talking! According to the news, there was over 60,000 people watching the parade.
