Well, that’s a blog title I never thought I’d write! But, yesterday we definitely had a bit of a zombie problem in the city. It was the annual Calgary Zombie Walk.
Apparently, the zombie walk is an event held downtown and it is where lots of people dress up and become zombies for the day. They congregate at Olympic Plaza and then walk the streets of Calgary in the aid of charity. This year’s charity was the Calgary Food Bank. I’m not sure if this is always the case, or it changes each year.
We read on the website that the event started at 12 noon in Olympic Plaza where thee would be vendors and face painters etc and then the actual walk would start at 3:30 pm.
We arrived around noon and there was only one stand where people registered for the walk, so we wandered back into the city and had a hot chocolate and muffins at Second Cup to pass some time, hoping that the event would pick up a bit later.
We wasted an hour or so and then ventured back down to the plaza and there were a couple of vendors and probably a dozen zombies, but as the afternoon progressed, more and more zombies dragged themselves down.
Lots of zombies eventually turned up and they all seemed to be having a good time, well, as good a time as zombies can have!
Quite a few dogs also entered into the spirit of the event, this beautiful bloodhound was my favourite. She was very friendly and when I started to stroke her (with her owner’s permission) she leaned into me and nearly knocked me over. Her owner said she likes to lean!
We had a good time and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was certainly something a bit different, and was quite entertaining.
